The Need to be Seen

In a world bustling with constant connectivity, it is ironic how many of us feel an intense sense of invisibility.

Not able to stand confidently in who we are, so much fear ingrained in our beliefs … in our knowing. So much conditioning caused from the outside world that tears us down.

This was me only a few short years ago …  having held back for too many years over worries about what others might think or say; stemming from my own experiences and stories.

Even still on occasion, if the trust hasn’t been formed.

Many layers.

Many generations of women before me, not able to stand in their power. Caused from the rules and narratives of our society, planting deep within our wombs, hearts, throats and beyond. Caused from never being able to take time for ourselves. Caused from not having say over your own bodies. Caused from disassociation.

Our desire to be seen is a fundamental aspect of being human - going far beyond simply being recognized, rather, feeling validated and valued in a world that often seems too preoccupied to notice.

Take this as a sign to go tell your friend how proud of them you are. ✨

Being seen is a deeply rooted psychological craving, needing acknowledgment from our peers, society and caregivers since we were young. Often not given because those taking care of us weren’t provided it either; many layers. About developing self-awareness and recognizing our own worth. Something that so many of us do not know how to.

Embracing vulnerability and authenticity.

Owning who we are.

Collectively, creating a world where we all feel valued, heard and appreciated.

A mentor of mine refers to this as the Witch Wound. Stemming from way back when many of our ancestors were shunned (or burned) for being in their power. For working with nature and intuition and all the things that were considered “normal” before the patriarchy came along. All of that trauma following us along through the generations, until somebody is willing to face it and step into their power - step into a place of being seen.

Here is a great podcast episode to listen a little further on this concept ..
